Parent Volunteer Information

South County Crew’s success depends on parent support. One of the most important aspects involves volunteer support from parents. Volunteering with the SOCO Crew community creates a great opportunity to connect with your rower, learn about the sport and be a part of an exciting rowing community. We need you! We have a job for every person and every schedule. And it’s just plain FUN!

More than 2,300 athletes from more than 40 VASRA member schools, plus many visiting teams, may compete in any one regatta. Over 150 parent volunteer positions are needed to make each regatta safe and fair — almost 1,000 parent jobs for the season. The Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA) requires all member schools to provide volunteers to work at every regatta. South County Crew will be fined if we do not provide volunteers for the designated positions. South County Crew Team requires every family to fill one of our designated school positions during the season.

Family Volunteering Requirement: South County Crew generally requires every family to fill one of the designated school VASRA positions at a regatta during the season, as well at least two team specific positions (e.g., team food tent staff, away regatta planning, pot luck dinner planning end of season team event).  The Board of Directors will publish the specific requirements for each season.  See the link below for parent volunteer opportunities.
